Create Real Impact Fall 2020 Video Contest
Share solutions for preventing reckless & distracted driving.
$1,500 Educational Grant

Due November 12th, 2020 - Time to get creative and speak out about the #1 killer of young people! Create Real Impact Contest calls on students to showcase their solutions and strategies to stop the #1 killer of young people–reckless and distracted driving.

Students submit one entry into one of the four categories: creative writing, video, graphic design, or music. There is also an additional category: The Spanish Language Award. They have individual grand-prize winners in each category and four prizes that go to the entrants with the most online votes.

In addition to the individual winners, they have another exciting category for teachers and advisors: a distracted driving social media campaign. This is an opportunity for high school teachers and advisors, to oversee student leaders’ efforts in implementing a social media campaign around distracted driving. Review the rules, fill out the online application, start the planning, and create a short video to showcase your campaign (projects can be developed through distance learning or in-person).

Create an original work showcasing your idea for a SOLUTION or STRATEGY to end reckless and distracted driving. Distracted driving is anything that takes your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel, your mind off your driving, or keeps your ears from being alert to your surroundings. They encourage participants to go beyond addressing phone-use; behind the wheel distractions include texting and talking on the phone but also applying make-up, turning to talk to your friends, adjusting the GPS or radio/shuffling the playlist, eating or drinking, or anything else that takes your attention away from the task of driving.

They also strongly encourage participants to avoid the word, “accident.” These are not just sad accidents but 100% preventable crashes. They believe that the majority of car crashes are preventable based on the choices being made inside of a car by a driver or a passenger.

Entries must be 60 seconds in length or shorter.
