Due May 21st, 2018 - Last year Tongal worked with an amazing group of Macy's ambassadors and Tongal filmmakers on the Macy's VCN Filmmaker Project. This year, they're continuing the fun and want you to apply!

As you know, Macy’s is THE quintessential American department store. With over 100 MILLION views per month on Macys.com and hundreds of stores across the country, Macy's has served generations of consumers providing everything you need in one destination!

And, now Tongal wants YOU to join the Macy’s family as part of the Macy’s Style Crew Creators Team. As part of the team, you’re invited to earn guaranteed upfront compensation for the content you produce weekly AND earn a percentage of sales driven by your ambassadors' videos.

How Will It Work?

This time around they are looking for SIX filmmakers and SIX editors to be a part of this project for an entire year. Pitch winners will be sent individual Production Service Agreements once the selection has been finalized.

Filmmaker Team

FIVE Filmmakers will each be paired with THREE NYC area-based ambassadors. Compensation for the year, per filmmaker, is $40,000 plus 2.5% of sales driven by your THREE ambassadors’ videos. So, the more your videos drive sales, the more you’ll earn.

ONE Filmmaker will be paired with FIVE ambassadors (THREE NYC area-based, ONE Seattle-based and ONE San Diego-based). Compensation for the year is $60,000 (given the additional TWO ambassadors and additional travel) plus 2.5% of sales driven by your ambassadors’ videos.

Filmmakers will each be creating a minimum of THREE pieces of content each week per ambassador. It'll be between you and your ambassadors to set up your production schedules and cadence (whether you film weekly, every other week, or monthly).

For the NYC and West-Coast filmmaker, they are not expecting you to fly to each destination on a weekly basis. As stated above, it's up to you and your ambassadors to determine a cadence that works.

The videos will be distributed by the ambassadors weekly on their individual personal channels (Facebook and Instagram), and promoted by Macy’s. The videos will be embedded with shoppable links.

Think about this project as an opportunity to help build up an ambassador’s personal channel; all the content created should feel like it’s in the ambassador’s personal voice.

Videos should utilize the best practices for each platform and feel authentic to the ambassador’s personality. Guidelines will be provided to the pitch winners.

The goal is to create content consistently so that your ambassadors will have content to post on a continuous basis (around 3 videos per week - each with an optimized thumbnail).

While this project will be ongoing until May 2019, your ambassador will be available for 44 weeks of the 52 weeks. You will be expected to make content for the 44 weeks not the entire 52 weeks (although you are welcome to). Filmmakers and ambassadors will coordinate schedules as they see fit.

Once filmmaker pitch winners are selected and paired off with brand ambassadors, each filmmaker will have two weeks for pre-production. During pre-production, you will hear more from Macy’s about their goals for this project. And, you’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with your brand ambassadors to shape strategy for building out his/her channel(s).

You will be responsible for securing releases for any non-Macy’s locations and all individuals (who are not your ambassador) in your videos.

All sales driven by your ambassadors’ videos will earn you incremental revenue on top of your production fee. There will also be a $1,000 performance-based bonus per month. Criteria to be determined. By submitting to this project, you are making a 12-month commitment to your brand ambassadors.

Editor Team

If you're a badass editor looking for part-time work this project is perfect for you.
They'll send you content created by Macy's digital ambassadors (80 ambassadors will be sending in iPhone/Android type videos each week) to edit down to short Instagram and Facebook optimized videos. The work will be split evenly amongst all SIX editors.

You'll receive anywhere between 10 - 30 videos per week to edit depending on how frequently the ambassadors create content (some weeks will have more content and some weeks will have less content). You will need to create an optimized thumbnail for each video.

Videos will be distributed on the ambassadors’ personal social channels – Facebook and Instagram. Videos should utilize the best practices for each platform and feel authentic to the ambassador’s personality. Guidelines will be provided to the pitch winners.

These ambassadors will be a completely separate group from the ambassadors paired with filmmakers.

You will be assigned videos each Friday to be edited by the following Wednesday.

You will be compensated $30,000 for the year plus 2.5% of sales driven by all EIGHTY ambassadors’ videos (split evenly amongst the SIX (6) editors). So, the more the ambassadors’ videos drive sales, the more you’ll earn.

While this project will be ongoing until May 2019, the ambassadors will only be sending content 44 weeks of the 52 weeks.
By submitting to this project, you are making a 12-month commitment.

The SIX most compelling pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, FIVE winners will each receive $40,000 (distributed incrementally on a monthly basis) and ONE winner will receive $60,000. In addition, you will receive 2.5% of sales generated by the content you produce. There will also be a $1,000 performance-based bonus per month. Criteria to be determined.

Editor Team
The SIX most compelling pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, winners will each receive $30,000 (distributed incrementally on a monthly basis). You will also receive 2.5% of sales generated by the ambassadors in this pool (split evenly amongst the 6 editors).

Video Awards
Filmmakers are expected to produce around THREE up to 60-second videos (each with an accompanying thumbnail) per week for each ambassador. Editors are expected to edit between 10-30 pieces of content per week and produce a thumbnail for each video.

Open to Tongal community members (it's free to register!), ages 13 and older.
