3 Generations Video Competition
Keep the Holocaust from fading from people's memory.

Due December 31st, 2020 - The Holocaust is fading from memory. A recent survey found that nearly two-thirds of young Americans were unaware of the 6 million Jewish people who were killed during the Holocaust.

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps, 3 Generations is holding a video competition.

“Unless the world learns the lessons these pictures teach, night will fall. But (by God’s grace) we who live will learn.”

These are the closing words of German Concentration Camps Factual Survey (GCCFS), a documentary originally shot by Allied Soldiers during the 1945 liberation of the concentration camps, and finally completed and released by Sydney & Baron Bernstein in 2014. They want GCCDS, and this closing quote in particular, to be the inspiration for the films submitted to the competition.

3 Generations invites young filmmakers to create a short video work that considers one or all of these questions.

How do we represent the atrocities of the Holocaust today to ensure the lessons learned are never forgotten?
What is the significance of representing atrocity?
What are the challenges?
What is the value of direct testimony?
What does it mean to bear witness?

Submissions can take any shape: monologue, fiction, documentary, poem, animation, art film, essay film, etc. Use whatever medium you feel comfortable with, as long as it is presented in video format. They are looking for work that effectively references GCCFS, teaches new audiences about what happened in the concentration camps, and/or illustrates the importance of visual testimony as an educational tool for understanding human rights abuses.

Entries must have a minimum duration of 30 seconds and be no more than 4 minutes.
