Due October 10th, 2013 - $25 doesn’t go a long way these days. It’s an amount of money that many people in the US don’t often think twice about spending, but could be impacting someone’s life in a developing country in a profoundly positive way.

Kiva is a non-profit organization fighting against global poverty by giving small loans -– starting at $25 -- to entrepreneurs around the world who don't have access to traditional banking systems. Through these loans, entrepreneurs are able to create opportunities for themselves, their families and their communities by building up their small businesses. 

In partnership with Citi, Kiva is launching Kiva U: A virtual community, which harnesses the energy, passion and creativity of students and educators to address the world’s critical problems through microfinance. By connecting and mobilizing microfinance clubs at high schools and colleges across the country, and providing access to free microfinance learning tools and resources, Kiva U will empower students and educators to become informed and effective agents of change.

Project Objectives
The goal is to create a 30-90 second video engaging students and educators to participate in Kiva U. The videos should educate viewers on what Kiva U is and answer the question, “How can youth change the world through microfinance?” The end result should create more dialogue among students, educators, filmmakers, Tongal members and Kiva supporters about the power of microloans.

Prizes

Idea Awards (Submissions end 09/02/13)
The THREE winning Idea creators will each receive $500 and a 5% one-time residual payment for every winning Video their Idea is used to generate.

Pitch Award (Submissions accepted 09/06/13 through 09/12/13)
The THREE most compelling Pitches will be selected and will receive $1,000 to help create their Video. Those winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.

First Place - $10,000
Second Place - $5,000
Third Place - $4,000
Fourth Place - $3,000
Fifth Place - $2,000
