Due October 1st, 2017 - Established by HUAPLUS in 2017, the Hua International Short Film Festival (HISFF) is the first and only international short film festival for filmmakers of Chinese descent. HISFF aims to showcase and support short film productions about the global Chinese community. It plays a vital role in identifying emerging overseas Chinese filmmakers and connecting them with audiences worldwide. Through short film productions, HISFF is dedicated to promoting Chinese cultures around the globe.

Nominated films will be announced and screened at the 2017 HISFF, which will be held at the prestigious Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, USA on October 29th, 2017. Together with films from the “Special Screening” Section, 20 nominated films will go on an international festival tour in New York, London, Tokyo, and Sydney. On December 2nd, 2017, an Award Ceremony will be held at the Inside-Out Theatre, Beijing, China.

Any Chinese-focused short film of 3 to 30 minutes that has any one of the following themes will be accepted:
 - Focuses on the lives and livings of overseas Chinese
 - Observations on Chinese culture outside China
 - Compares and contrasts Chinese culture with another culture
 - Reflects the filmmaker's cross-cultural perspectives on global histories and cultures
